About the Gaithersburg Newsletter

I am a Gaithersburg resident. I used to be a reporter. I got my degree in journalism from the University of Washington. I am not a journalist any longer, but I looked around Gaithersburg and the news coverage is frighteningly thin.

That's why I created the Gaithersburg Newsletter.

The reality is that local news reporting has never been particularly profitable. And in the digital age, it's a money loser. In the world of business, local news organizations are giant turds.

That's why I created the Gaithersburg Newsletter.

I'm not trying to make money. I don't want anyone's money. All I want to do is shed some light on our city.

While I don't want your money, I encourage all Gaithersburg residents to submit their own stories to be published in the Gaithersburg Newsletter. I don't guarantee I will publish everything, so please bounce your idea off me before submitting.

FWIW, this website logs no information about anything or anyone who accesses it. I do not know who is reading this website and I do not care to know. There are no cookies.

If you want to create a website like this, I can help you do that. Local news coverage is important everywhere. I'm a veteran software engineer. I have figured out how to build a pretty decent website that requires no programming, and is very efficient. That means it's cheap to run on a virtual machine, such as an Amazon EC2. This tiny website costs me a couple of dollars a month to run. I'm not trying to sell you anything, I will show you how to do it for free.
